Live, Love, Paddle Kayak Tour | Lady Bird Lake in Austin, TX

Dropped the kayaks in behind Joe’s Crab Shack and paddled out to the Congress Bridge.  Every night, at sunset, the largest urban bat colony in the world emerges (nearly 2 million bats!).  They come out in this tube formation and fly east in the most tremendous swarms (it takes them 30-40 minutes to completely empty the bridge).  Hundreds of people line the sides of the bridge to watch this miraculous event, but I’m pretty convinced that from a kayak is the only way to REALLY experience it.  From the sounds, to the smells, to the rain of bat guano (only relatively disgusting), it’s a feeling that can’t be replicated.  I’m not usually the tour-type, but this was worth every penny.
