Little Italy (Pearl District-style)

Sunday night in Portland was tough. We were all so ridiculously stuffed that we struggled to find energy (and room!) to make our 7:30pm reservation at Piazza Italia. We were two seconds from canceling when one of us let out one huge, simultaneous belch and all of sudden we were starving (gross…that didn’t happen). A…

Sandwich heaven. Pulled pork with apple-cabbage slaw, mustard, and pickles: Meatball parmigiano hero: Roasted chicken salad with bacon and avo: Grilled pb+j: Winner: Meatball hero. Despite my distaste for red meat these days, this sandwich was, hands down, the best hero I’ve ever set lips on.

Taking instructions

To blog something other than food. Le sigh… A close second to all things edible: POWELL’S! Hour after hour of books. And a cutting board made just for me: And now a wardrobe pick-me up at our beloved Frances May.

all before 11:11

Pre-breakfast, stomach-stretching: Coava Coffee Roasters… Followed by real breakfast at Roost: I ordered this little number. An excellent choice on my part. Goat cheese and scallion cream scramble with asparagus and arugula salad. (talk about exceptional ideas for home breakfasts!) My mom had the veggie tostada… And the other ladies enjoyed the yogurt with flax…

I told you I wanted a dairy goat:

Well here they are, perched and ready. That top one was snoring when I got there… Home: Portland Homestead Supply. (I had to fight for my right to party with these four-leggeds…with a handful of 5 year olds)

Yet to be let down…

Another exceptional Portland feast (despite being stuffed from previous exceptional Portland feast[s]) at Olympic Provisions… I enjoyed a seriously seductive sparkling wine, some fantastic cheeses, and a radicchio salad unlike anything that’s met my mouth… Roasted radicchio, crucolo, cerignola olives, aged balsamic. Good Lordy…

life’s too short to eat ok food…

So we came to a food cart corral (this particular bundle was off of 43rd + Belmont): Chile Relleno pie (hot outta the oven and worthy of some sort of heavenly savory pie acclimation) from The Honey Pot. And then… Mac and cheese from Herb’s. And THEN… Creme Brûlée from Sweet Pea’s.

first feast – pdx.

¿ por que no? homemade raspberry coconut margarita with a chili salt rim. i die: two fish tacos (some of the best i’ve had) and one carnitas special (something sweet and spicy). all three full of enough goodness to knock you silly:

Oven ‘Fried’ Pickles + Yogurt Ranch.

One of my favorite things:  Fried pickles from People’s Pub in Ballard. Three of my second favorite things:  not eating fried foods, not driving to Ballard, and this recipe. Oven Fried Pickles + Yogurt Ranch (as adapted from skinnytaste.com) Preheat your oven and a baking sheet to 450. Place your pickles on a paper towel…

keen-wa.

Welcome back to my belly! This fantastic amino-rich seed makes my heart skip a beat.  Commonly considered a grain, this little guy is actually a relative of leafy greens like spinach or chard.  What’s really cool: not only is quinoa high in protein, but the protein it supplies is complete protein, meaning that it includes all…

NY photos.

Unfortunately they’re only up on Facebook at the moment (that was nearly enough of a feat), but they’ll be soon to join us on the blog, I hope. Two of my favorite shots on the trip:
