Art + Air Festival; Albany, Oregon

If you happen to be looking for the dictionary definition of love, amidst a bunch of other mumbo-jumbo, you’ll most certainly find a reference to “happily entertaining last minute decisions to drive to the middle of nowhere for an unknown festival.” (or something of that nature). PizzAmore: Albany, Oregon (so, so). We attended mainly for…

Speaking of Freedom:

Happy Fourth of July! We celebrated with a little family BBQ. Cheryl and I did a quick decor overhaul (some flags, some patriotically colored utensils, and a 10-minute sign I whipped up upon request). On the menu: Chicken skewers with zucchini and sweet onion, smokey roasted potatoes, freshy salad from the garden, some homemade rosemary…

Final day of the freedom to stuff!

If I were to be defined by a restaurant, Prasad would be it. Stumbled upon this little gem while shopping (big surprise) in the Pearl. It’s a cute little spot you might expect to find in LA, or the likes. Connected to a giant yoga studio, this space is the epitome of all things granola….

Little Italy (Pearl District-style)

Sunday night in Portland was tough. We were all so ridiculously stuffed that we struggled to find energy (and room!) to make our 7:30pm reservation at Piazza Italia. Sandwich heaven. Pulled pork with apple-cabbage slaw, mustard, and pickles: Meatball parmigiano hero: Roasted chicken salad with bacon and avo: Grilled pb+j: Winner: Meatball hero. Despite my distaste for red meat these days, this sandwich was, hands down, the best hero I’ve ever set lips on.

Pre-breakfast, stomach-stretching: Coava Coffee Roasters… Followed by real breakfast at Roost: I ordered this little number. An excellent choice on my part. Goat cheese and scallion cream scramble with asparagus and arugula salad. (talk about exceptional ideas for home breakfasts!) My mom had the veggie tostada… And the other ladies enjoyed the yogurt with flax…

I told you I wanted a dairy goat:

Well here they are, perched and ready. That top one was snoring when I got there… Home: Portland Homestead Supply. (I had to fight for my right to party with these four-leggeds…with a handful of 5 year olds)

Yet to be let down…

Another exceptional Portland feast (despite being stuffed from previous exceptional Portland feast[s]) at Olympic Provisions… I enjoyed a seriously seductive sparkling wine, some fantastic cheeses, and a radicchio salad unlike anything that’s met my mouth… Roasted radicchio, crucolo, cerignola olives, aged balsamic. Good Lordy…

life’s too short to eat ok food…

So we came to a food cart corral (this particular bundle was off of 43rd + Belmont): Chile Relleno pie (hot outta the oven and worthy of some sort of heavenly savory pie acclimation) from The Honey Pot. And then… Mac and cheese from Herb’s. And THEN… Creme Brûlée from Sweet Pea’s.
